Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Allegations Connected to Player the Athlete
The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in contact with the league office.
The organization omitted the name of the player by name in their statement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, shared a set of images on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with Rice, whom the team selected in the second round.
Official Complaints Currently Not on File
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles
The receiver was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals injured. Rice was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
Statistically, Rice concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Kansas City went with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
